Antwan Jones, Associate Professor of Sociology and Africana Studies at The George Washington University, has joined the D.C. Policy Center’s Advisory Committee.
WASHINGTON, D.C., May 25, 2017 – The D.C. Policy Center is pleased announce that Dr. Antwan Jones has joined the Center’s Advisory Committee.
Receiving degrees from Duke University and Bowling Green State University, Dr. Jones is recognized for his expertise on inequality, the impact of unequal neighborhoods on health, and the implications of gentrification on community race relations.
Dr. Jones studies the linkages between residence and health. He explores the health disparities among marginalized populations, focusing on how residential processes (such as housing instability) and neighborhood contexts (such as food deserts and concentrated poverty) are essential to the study of adult cardiovascular disease, child obesity, and disability among the elderly. He also explores racial variation in both residence and health. His research, grounded in sociological theories, is data driven.
Dr. Jones writes and speaks on topics related to urban neighborhoods, population health, the geographical components of demographic change, and racial and ethnic relations. His research has received several awards, including the 2015 Young Trialist Award from Cardiovascular Clinical Trialists Forum and he has published in many peer reviewed journals and notable outlets such as Journal of Health and Place, Journal of Urban Affairs, and Journal of Immigrant and Minority Health.
