Chanell Autrey serves as Senior Director of Government and Community Affairs for Monumental Sports and Entertainment. In this role, she is responsible for maintaining knowledge on state and federal legislation and proposed legislation in order to provide analysis and potential impacts for the organization.
Prior to joining Monumental Sports and Entertainment, Chanell spent five years at the Council of the District of Columbia, most recently as Committee Director for the Office of Councilmember Kenyan R. McDuffie and Chair of the Committee on Business & Economic Development. Previously, she served as Deputy Committee Director for the Office of Councilmember Charles Allen and Chair of the Committee on the Judiciary & Public Safety as well as Legislative Counsel for McDuffie and Chair of the Committee on the Judiciary.
A graduate of Pennsylvania State University and George Washington University Law School, Chanell began her professional career as an Assistant Public Defender in Baltimore and is an active member of the Maryland Bar Association. Chanell is Immediate Past Chair of the National Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division and her theme for the bar year was “Policy. Action. Change.” Under her leadership, the division implemented an agenda focused on ways to engage young lawyers in public policy. This included a professional development series focused on nontraditional attorney careers, grassroots advocacy, effective lobbying, and the art of fundraising. Chanell currently serves as Issues and Programming Co-Chair for the DC Democratic State Committee. In this role, she has planned panels on social justice issues such as educational equity and voter suppression. Chanell has also been named to the National Black Lawyers Top 40 under 40 and the National Bar Association’s Top 40 Under 40.
