Shutdown impact on local economy, the future of ‘DNA Alley,’ the 411 on Spotted Lanternflies | WAMU

On October 13, 2025, Executive Director Yesim Sayin was quoted in WAMU:

Koma spoke to Yesim Sayin of the D.C. Policy Center about  the shutdown’s impact, on top of the numerous layoffs. She said D.C. has been weathering the economic storm caused by the Trump administration but that it is only the result of robust national and global financial markets.

“None of this activity that fuels that growth is coming from what is happening in the city or in the region. It’s just like the national and the global markets,” she explains. The latest layoffs will only complicate that picture.
