Timothy Harwood was for 13 years spokesman for the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), the U.S. Government’s development finance institution, which mobilizes private capital to address critical development challenges in emerging markets around the world. Most recently, he was global communications manager for MenEngage Alliance, an international network of 700 organizations working with men and boys for gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Earlier, Timothy was communications officer for the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, the nation’s largest nonprofit supporter of community development; press officer in the United Nations’ Department of Public Information; policy aide for U.S. Senator Jack Reed (RI) and press secretary for Senator Reed’s freshman congressional campaign; and editor of the Cranston Herald, Rhode Island’s oldest weekly newspaper. In the 1990s he spent two years teaching at a rural high school in South Africa’s KwaZulu Natal Province.

Timothy earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Boston University and a master’s degree in African studies from Yale University.
