On October 5, 2026, Executive Director Yesim Sayin was quoted in the Washington Informer about job losses in the District:
In its 2026 State of Business Report, the DC Chamber of Commerce stated that the District’s economic growth faltered in 2025, although it improved slightly early this year While the report cites COVID-19 and federal workforce reduction for the decline, and the weakened labor market, the last decade of an evolving D.C. growth model has also played a role. The model of businesses relocating, employers hiring and the federal government expanding within the District, Yesim Sayin said, is no longer present.
“We can’t wait for the growth to come back,” said Sayin, DC Policy Center executive director and a panelist at the DC Chamber of Commerce’s 2026 State of the District & Region Conference. “We have to kind of think about how to recreate it.”
